The fact is, till the end of the project, I was running out of time, but still tons of ideas, so I have to rush through them, couldn’t make the detail better.
其實，到接近交稿日期時，我腦中還有很多梗，可是沒有時間把它們完全呈現，也沒辦法對細節更仔細，如果明年還有參加，這應該是我要加強的部份。

#16, “A Complete Family in five minutes……”  Obviously, this dude is waiting for his baby to arrive.
第十六篇，「再五分鐘就有完整的家了‧‧‧‧‧‧」，當然不是說家裡沒有小孩就不完整，這只是依照大家通用的說法畫出來。

Last one, “Enlightened in five minutes.”
最後一篇，「再五分鐘就悟道了‧‧‧‧‧‧」

As I was talking to my friend, Joseph, we came across the conversation about the enlightenment of Buddha.  Which I thought would be cool to draw a “five minutes before” for Buddha, since people most of the time only mention about the “moment of enlightenment.”  All accomplishments are accumulated by the efforts of many “five minutes” before the moment.
那天跟Joseph在講話，就講到佛陀在菩提樹下悟道之事。我想，一般都是強調悟道的那一瞬間，如果有人畫一下「悟道前五分鐘」應該也滿酷的。所有的成就，其實也就是之前的每一個五分鐘所累積。

The reason why this one is colored is because I completed this page right before sending it out, and I actually colored some parts of all pages.  Everything else was scanned at home the night before shipping, and this page was scanned in the office right before mailing.  I didn’t have time to scan all the colored pages, but took a picture of them with my cell phone.
為什麼這篇是彩色呢？並不是我對佛陀偏心，其實我在寄出前，每一篇都有局部上色。之前的每一篇都是寄出前一天晚上在家掃瞄的，那時還沒上色。等到隔天到公司了，我又多畫一篇佛陀，在公司掃瞄，所以是彩色。其他都是寄出前用手機在郵局快速拍下，有空再來貼。

At the very last page, I wanted to express my thanks to many people.  Without them, I would still continue, but it wouldn’t be as much fun.
在最後一頁，我希望對很多人表達我的感謝，沒有大家，我應該還是會繼續畫，但是一定沒有這麼好玩。

I know, I know, this one looks too simple, and the spirit looks more like a Halloween ghost…… Let’s just put it this way, I was standing in a line when making this drawing…….  Actually, almost half of the drawings in this project were slowly finished when I was standing in a line.  Good idea of time-saving!

是的，我知道，這一篇看起來真是太隨便了，兩三下就畫好，而那個靈魂看起來比較像萬聖節的床單鬼。這樣說好了，這篇是我一邊排隊一邊畫好的。其實，這整個project中一半以上的作品應該都是在排隊中慢慢完成。省時間嘛！

Discover gravity in five minutes……
再五分鐘就發現「地心引力」‧‧‧‧‧‧

Don’t tell me this one looks very simple, too, because it is, and I know it…… It is a very old school topic to draw, but then like I mentioned before, “NEWTON” has some special meaning in my house, he deserves some attention.
不要告訴我這篇看起來太簡單，因為我早就知道了‧‧‧‧‧‧ 而「地心引力」也是個老梗，只不過因為「NEWTON」這個單字在我家有不太一樣的意義，所以給牛頓先生一點版面。

It is my regret that I didn’t have time to fully color in all these artworks.  It feels incomplete, yet it is another form of completion.
對於沒有時間完全上色這件是，我是遺憾的，感覺好像這是未完成的作品，不過，我想對我來講，也是另一種形式的完成，一種突破。

Awaken from dreams in five minutes……
再五分鐘夢就醒了‧‧‧‧‧‧

I was actually thinking about, the awakening of people’s conscience.
我本來想要表達的是，人對良心的覺醒，不過意境太深，功力不足，就這樣吧！

I like this one very much, despite the fact that many people are out of proportion, or their behaviors don’t make sense.  I especially like the girl with a broken umbrella.
很喜歡這張。是啦！有的人比例根本不對，也有人看起來太輕鬆，不符合整體畫面，不過我就是喜歡，尤其是傘開花的那個女生。

Everything here has been scanned, and the sketchbook was mailed out in January already.
所有作品都是寄出前掃瞄的，而正本真品已經在一月中寄過去了，只是東岸大風雪，不知道他們有沒有時間處理。

Laundry will be done in five minutes…….
再五分鐘就洗好了‧‧‧‧‧‧

I was just thinking, who does the laundry for the super heroes?  Don’t their outfit get dirty, too? (don’t tell me it is the prop team……)
有時我會想，那些超人啊、蝙蝠俠的衣服都是誰洗的？難道不會髒嗎？(不要告訴我是劇組)

Make you fall in love with me in five minutes……
再五分鐘就讓妳愛上我‧‧‧‧‧‧

The setting was going to be “Romeo and Juliet’s House,” however, I didn’t have time to research, so there, a tower, which everyone would ask, “did you watch the new movie Tangled?”  Even though I really love the story of Rapunzel,  this is not inspired by that story, it is just a messed “Romeo and Juliet.”
這個場景是模仿「羅密歐與茱麗葉」，不過我沒時間查背景畫面應該是怎樣，就畫成一座塔，於是，每一個看到的人都問我：「妳有看過最近的新卡通長髮公主嗎？」是的，我從小就很愛長髮公主的故事，但是這篇不是受長髮公主的影響，這只是畫錯的「羅密歐與茱麗葉」，好嗎？

Why “fall in love in five minutes”?  Because the song is about the length of five minutes.
為什麼「五分鐘愛上我」呢？因為那首情歌唱完大約五分鐘，真是有把握啊！

Well, super hero needs to take a break some times, right?
超人應該也是要休息一下的吧？

And yes, as my dear Mr. Rock had pointed out, the engine is on the wrong side and facing wrong side of the wing.  My bad.  This is call “lack of research before drawing.”
然後，我家老爺鄭重指出，飛機的引擎一整個就是錯的，不是面對後面，而是前面，而且也長錯邊了‧‧‧‧‧‧是的，小的錯了，這就是沒有查證實物就畫的下場，下次改進。

It sure was “hair-pulling” trying to think of what could match the topic, it is actually quite difficult.  When I have a very good idea, I usually have to spend a long time thinking of how to express it.  And yes, I did not do a pencil sketch before I use my pen, everything was done in “one take” and mistakes are there to stay.
為了想要畫什麼，頭髮都快被拔光了，這個主題其實是不容易的。進度也很慢，因為每次想到好梗，就要花很多時間在腦中構圖，構好圖後直接用簽字筆畫上去，不用鉛筆打草稿，這也表示，任何失誤都會跟著一起永久參展。

再五分鐘就開始度蜜月‧‧‧‧‧‧‧

Take off in five minutes.
Yes, that is a Taiwan flag on the roof of the building, I LOVE TAIWAN!!!  And yes, the plane has wings.
再五分鐘就要起飛‧‧‧‧‧‧
是的，機場屋頂上是台灣國旗，人家愛台灣啦！然後，沒錯，這台飛機有翅膀。

Will have water in five minutes……  Water is very important, please conserve water and use it wisely.
再五分鐘就有水了‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧ 水很珍貴，請珍惜用水。

Started this when I was getting gas, but did not finish as the gas was full.  For those that do not read Chinese, the literal translation of “getting gas” from Chinese to English is “Add Oil.”
去加油的時候畫的，但是油加好了，還沒畫完，回家再補畫。

For all these drawings, I did some last minute coloring 1 hour before I mailed it out, but these that you see now I scanned the night before, so they are still in black and white.
所有的作品在寄出前一個小時有做重點上色，然而，掃瞄這個工作是前一天晚上做的，所以還是黑白。

This post is about the reason why I haven’t been updating my blog.
這一篇是要將為何好久沒有更新的原因公諸於世。

Last year, I saw from the blog of one of the illustrators/artists that I like talked about this project, The Sketchbook Project.
去年，我從一個我很喜歡的插畫家的部落格上看到這個活動，「The Sketchbook Project」。

Which right away I thought, “This is too cool to be true!  I am attending!!!!!!”
And without even evaluating my work load, I have signed up………..
不看還好，一看之下心想「這實在太酷了！一定要參加！！！！！」
於是，我在完全沒有掂過自己斤兩的情況下盲目加入了‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧

How cool is this project?
Well, cut it short, people from all over the world will attend (so far 28,000 some people), pick a topic to draw, the host send you a blank sketchbook, you fill it with things related to your topic, send it back, these little sketchbooks will go on tour for exhibition all over the US,  and finally, they will grow root in Brooklyn, New York.
這個活動有多酷呢？
長話短說：全世界的人都可參加(目前已有2萬8千多人)，選定繪畫主題，主辦單位寄給你一本畫冊，讓你依主題畫完，於時限內寄回，然後這些畫本會在全美的幾個大城市巡迴展覽，最後回到紐約的布魯克林作固定展覽。

Today, I will the covers and some pages, the rest will follow.  And yes, I have mailed my sketchbook back already.
今天，小的就在此先放上封面及幾頁內容，剩下的‧‧‧‧‧‧等有空再說。然後，沒錯，我的本子已經寄回去，拿不回來了‧‧‧‧‧‧

The topic of my choice is “IN FIVE MINUTES……”  It could be something that can be done in five minutes, or something that would happen in five minutes.  Of course, this is the direction that I decided to go with, there are others that try to complete each page in five minutes, pretty cool, too.
我的主題是「五分鐘」，可能是五分鐘內完成的事，也可能是再五分鐘就發生的事。當然，這是我的繪圖方向，有的人是每一篇要五分鐘內畫完，那也滿好玩的。

I didn’t know what to put at the very first page, so I figure that a “Table of Contents” would be helpful.  Especially in a multi-language book.
一直不知道第一頁要畫什麼，最後因為內容很多中文，所以畫了目錄，順便當翻譯。

This is the first piece of artwork in my sketchbook, “Will be LATE in five minutes.”
It would be too typical if there were only students and working people, therefore, a cat in sunglasses is very necessary.
這是第一幅圖，「再五分鐘就遲到了‧‧‧‧‧‧」。
如果只有一些學生跟上班族在等公車，好像有點普通，最好是加入一隻‧‧‧‧‧‧戴墨鏡的貓，多帥氣啊！

好，今天這樣就夠了，小的就此告退。

Recently, I got into a challenge project with PiJu, who is also an artist.  The Challenge is, we will come up with a topic every week (now it is changed to every other week), and we will drawing according to the topic.  There is no limit to the media or style we use.  We are not competing, it is just a fun way to practice and refine our drawing skills.

最近跟PiJu兩人開始了一個「挑戰」。這個「挑戰」是，每週 (因為大家太忙，已經改成每兩週)我們會決定一個題目，兩人就此題發揮，畫具及素材不限。其實這並不是一個比賽，只是激發及提昇兩人繪畫技巧的好玩方式。

Our very first topic was to have our other friend, June, randomly rip out two pages from the magazine, and she will give one page to each of us.  This is the page I got.

我們第一週的挑戰主題是由另一個朋友June從雜誌中隨意拆兩頁，一人一頁，照著畫。
這一頁是我的‧‧‧‧‧‧

This is an ad from a chocolate bar.  Full of people, one of my weakness in drawing.  But it is ok, because I have decided that I will not draw as professional and as realistic as they do.  Let’s just make them all stick figures. (Ha!)

這是巧克力的廣告，畫面中主角都是人，我最不會畫的就是人‧‧‧‧‧‧‧ 怎麼會去抽到這一張？！！！不過沒關係，我已經想好了，就不要把人都畫得這麼真，都畫骨頭人就好。(哈！)

After discussing with my beloved “Creative Director,” yes, my hubby, we came up with some other ideas.  Now, now, we disagree with the chocolate bars in their hands, so we changed them to something else.  This is the first draft.

在與我的「創意總監」(是的，我家老爺啦！)討論後，我們決定把手中的巧克力丟掉，拿些別的有營養又好笑的東西吧！這張是初稿。

Here comes the final.  If you want to know what the last guy is holding in his hand, call my hubby and ask him, he will be more than happy to explain.

這是完稿。如果有人想知道最左邊的人手上拿的是什麼東西，那個嘛‧‧‧‧‧‧請打給我家老爺，相信他會給大家一個交待的。

This is about the restaurant that Mom and I went when we were at the East coast for Erika’s graduation.
今天要講的是我跟娘去東岸參加小妹畢業典禮時遇到的一間餐廳，奇妙的餐廳。

We stayed at a small town (compare to the place we live) at the east coast.  People are extremely nice, everything is slow and soft. (The only disadvantage is that everything closes very early)
在東岸時，我們住的地方算是個小鎮，人們都超親切，一切的一切都以「輕、柔、慢」來進行 (唯一缺點就是是晚上一到，什麼店都關得差不多了)。

On the first night, we had some salad and instant noodle.  The second night, we decided to go out, hope to find something different to eat.   As the local people told us, Jade would be a good restaurant for vegetarians, so we went.
第一晚的晚餐，我們吃了生菜沙拉跟泡麵。第二晚，我們想要吃點不同的。問過當地人後，他們推薦我們去Jade，可能會有我們想要的好吃的素食。

We should have known what kind of restaurant it is from the name, however, we didn’t think that much, and we went.  As we opened the door, a very familiar music came to our ears, it was a very famous old Chinese song from a very old and popular singer.

其實，若我們有仔細想過這間餐廳的名字，應該就會知道它是什麼餐廳，但是不知怎麼的，一時沒有多想也就去了。是的，一開門，入耳的是超級熟悉的音樂，鄧麗君小姐的「何日君再來」。

Oh Me Gosh!!!  I couldn’t believe that we flew all the way to the east coast, a totally different place from LA, to have some Chinese food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
老天爺！我們瘋了嗎？！千里迢迢好不容易飛到東岸，住在一個沒有什麼中文人的小鎮，然後竟然在這邊吃中國菜？！！！！

All the decorations, style of the chairs and tables, paints on the walls, plants……everything of everything, it is so typical and old school Chinese restaurant!!  Even the designs on the bowls and plates are super Chinese!!!
所有的擺設、桌椅、牆上的畫跟掛飾、盆栽‧‧‧‧‧‧一切的一切，通通都是超級典型的老派中餐廳，連碗盤上的紅色「如意」都是！

However, we were actually pretty excited to be here, because at a very unfamiliar place, we can finally have some familiar warm food.  The owner of the restaurant was super nice to us, too.
然而，我們其實還滿開心的，因為能夠在這種非常人生地不熟之處吃到熟悉又溫暖的食物，實屬難得。更何況，餐廳的老闆娘對我們很親切，不停來關心我們吃得如何，還跟我們聊天。

I just had to put what we had that day into my sketchbook.  One thing to note, their chow mein (fry noodles) is quite different from what I am used to.  The noodle is literally “fried” and crunchy, you have to pour the stir fried mixed vegetables on top of it and eat it that way.  How cool!
能奇遇中式餐廳太奇妙了，所以一定要把吃的東西畫下來。一件很值得記錄的事，他們的炒麵跟我們平常吃的不同，他們的炒麵是廣東炒麵，所以是給你一盤麵乾，然後自己把勾過芡的什錦蔬菜淋上去，拌著脆脆的麵吃。超酷！

Before we got on the car and leave, I just had to take a picture of the front door of this “Jade Garden,” a memorable moment of the whole trip.

臨上車前，我特別拍下他們的大門，這是此次旅程的美好回憶之一。

Here is something I drew on our way to Erika’s Marine boot camp graduation.
這是在去小妹的海軍陸戰隊畢業典禮時，路過德州的天空畫的。

I am a super sea-sick & plane-sick person.  It was a lot of struggle for me to draw this on the plane.  But because I like this scene so much, I wanted to preserve it right away.
我是一個超級暈船暈機人，要把這張圖在飛機上畫好是有難度的。然而，這個畫面太讚了，排除萬難都要現場記錄下來。

Yes, it looked just like this (ha), there were some hills on the far end, a river/stream somewhere, many trees, and most important of all, the little colorful blocks.  Those blocks are farmlands, the reason why they are all different colors is because they grow different kind of crops.

是的， 當時我眼睛看到的就跟上面一張圖一模一樣(最好是啦！)，後面有山坡、前面有小河、到處都是樹，最重要的是，地上有一片一片不同顏色的小方塊。那些方塊其實是種著不同農作物的農地，泥土的顏色就不同。

The little bean sprout within the colored blocks are actually the driveway into the land.
農地方塊上的豆芽其實是進入農地的車道，為什麼不是每一塊地都有呢？這個問題很好，我也不知道。

Lastly, I love the shadow of the clouds.
最後要強調的是，我很愛雲的影子。

If you find the lines a bit dull, that is because I used a brown pen, and the scanner tend to make everything dull.
如果線條看起來有點淡，顏色不夠飽和，那是因為我的掃瞄器不是最讚的。
